Subscribing to this blog via RSS from Outlook 2007 Beta 2

I managed to fix my RSS issues. You can now use the links on the bottom of this page to subscribe to this blog via RSS.

If you are using Outlook 2007 Beta 2, the links won’t work (I presume due to a bug). You need to manually add the feeds:

  • Blog: http://pschmid.net/blog/feed/
  • Comments: http://pschmid.net/blog/comments/feed/

I hope everyone is now able to follow this blog via RSS. If you are still having issues, please post a comment to this post and I’ll get it fixed.

    Patrick,

I would like to follow some of your work regarding customizing the ribbon in Office 2007. Primarily I want to remain a Word user and not have to become a developer.

I for one am not a candidate for a Doctorate in computer science and I don’t know what you mean by “follow this blog via RSS.” You might consider explaining how that is done if you have time.

If you have Outlook 2007, go into Tools, Account Settings, RSS Feeds. Click New and paste in the URL for the Blog posted above. Press OK in the window that appears then. And then press Close. In your Navigation Pane, go to Personal Folders, RSS Subscriptions. You should see a sub-folder there labeled “Patrick Schmid: Putting You & I back into Office 2007’s UI”. It might take a few moments, but Outlook should eventually load all my blog posts there as messages for you to read.
Outlook will update these subscriptions periodically and you will see new updates there (might only happen if you have send/receive scheduled, when you reopen Outlook…it doesn’t seem to be the most predictable in Beta 2 currently).

You have to copy & paste that Wikipedia link. It didn’t get formatted correctly.
If you want to make sure you don’t miss a comment, subscribe via RSS to the Comments feed as well.

Clicking on Entries (RSS) and Comments (RSS) should now work from Outlook 2007.

You replied to to a question I had about running 2007 Beta and 2003 together, thanks. Did have one more question. you said: “If you install Outlook 2007, 2003 will be uninstalled automatically. The rule for dealing with two Office versions is: install the older one first (2003), then the newer one (2007). Uninstall in reverse order, so
2007 first then 2003. If you want to reinstall 2003 (e.g. because you want Outlook 2003), remove 2007, reboot, reinstall 2003, reinstall 2003.

Did you mean uninstall 2007, reboot, uninstall 2003 and then reinstall 2003?

Go ahead and post the responce to my email.

    Jim

  6. Patrick Schmid Says:

    Hi Jim,

yes sorry. I meant: If you want to reinstall 2003 (e.g. because you want Outlook 2003), remove 2007, reboot, reinstall 2003, reinstall 2007 (if you want 2007).
